Career update for EACH graduates of 2025

Approximately a year ago, the ninth intake of EACH students completed their studies in the EACH programme. Looking back at their first year after graduation, we are delighted to see the impressive range of career paths they have pursued.

This cohort consisted of 18 graduates, and all of them secured a position within 12 months of graduation. Eleven graduates entered the job market, while seven chose to continue their academic journey through PhD studies.

The positions our most recent graduates have obtained reflect the diversity of opportunities available to EACH graduates. These range from industry roles such as Quality Control Engineer at GlucoModicum (Finland) and Product Specialist in GC and GC-MS at Shimadzu (Brazil) to research-focused careers, including PhD studies at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry at BOKU (Austria) and a Doctoral Researcher position at Afekta Technologies (Finland).

As their achievements demonstrate, the EACH programme continues to equip graduates with the knowledge, skills, and international perspective needed to thrive in both academia and industry. Below, some of our most recent graduates share their experiences and reflections on their time in the EACH programme:

Favour Ogheneoruese Onoharigho (UU study track), currently a PhD student at the University of Alabama (Birmingham, USA):

Leaving Nigeria, all I had was a dream: to gain knowledge, develop my analytical skills, and become better prepared for the future I envisioned for myself in science and research. The EACH programme not only prepared me for that future but also gave me the confidence and foundation to pursue it.

My time in the EACH programme was truly transformative. During my first year at the University of Tartu, Estonia, I thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on laboratory work, where I was exposed to different analytical techniques, including HPLC, GC, FTIR, AES, XRF, among others. My second year at Uppsala University further expanded my knowledge, especially in sample preparation, proteomics, metabolomics, and the analysis of complex biological samples. These experiences helped me understand not only the principles behind these techniques, but also how to apply them in solving real scientific problems.

Besides academics, EACH gave me the opportunity to experience cultural diversity by studying in different countries, meeting people from different backgrounds, and learning how to adapt to new environments. There were certainly challenging moments, and there were times when I felt overwhelmed during this journey, but the programme coordinators were always supportive and attentive to the needs of the students.

Currently, I am a PhD student in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, United States of America, where my research focuses on membrane protein analysis, biophysics, and structure. For me, EACH was a stepping stone and a place of growth, and I am truly proud to be part of the EACH community.

Gloriana María Rosabal Quirós (ÅAU study track), currently working as Specialist at Icosagen (Estonia):

Participating in the EACH programme has completely transformed my life. It provided me not only with advanced knowledge and a strong foundation in analytical chemistry and electrochemistry, but also opened the door to invaluable networking opportunities, international collaborations, and a rewarding professional career.

My first year at the University of Tartu equipped me with the skills and scientific mindset that I now apply every day in my role as a Protein Analyst. More importantly, it taught me to look beyond established procedures, evaluate analytical methods, and develope optimization strategies.

During my second year at Åbo Akademi University, I gained invaluable expertise in electrochemistry and sensor technologies. Working alongside outstanding supervisors, I learned how to approach complex challenges with persistence, and creativity, skills that continue to guide me both in research and in industry.

I can confidently say that choosing the TÜ-ÅAU track was one of the best decisions I have made. It provided me with the flexibility and versatility to pursue different career paths in the future. The programme gave me the practical expertise, adaptability, and problem-solving mindset required in industry.

Today, I work as an HPLC/LC–MS Specialist for Protein Analysis and Characterization at a leading biotechnology company in Estonia. This achievement would not have been possible without EACH. The programme took me to Tartu, a city where I spent an unforgettable year and that I am now proud to call my home. Looking back, EACH gave me far more than a master’s degree. It gave me lifelong friendships and a career that I love. For all of this, I will always be grateful.
