Looking back on the EACH programme – Angelo and Faiza
Angelo Bryan Lazo and Faiza Fayyad are two of the fresh 2024 graduates of the EACH programme. Read next about their experience with their studies at the University of Tartu (UT) and Åbo Akademi University (AAU):
Faiza and Angelo: Undertaking our master’s studies under the EACH programme was definitely a transformative and career-boosting experience. The diverse and comprehensive courses we took at the University of Tartu filled the gaps in our knowledge and skills in analytical chemistry. The combination of theoretical learning and hands-on experience provided us with the confidence to work in analytical labs whether in industry or in academia. Furthermore, our second year of studies at Åbo Akademi University developed our research skills. We were able to develop critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities that will be invaluable as we tackle challenges in the future.
The growth we have experienced would not be possible without the unwavering support of the people around us during our time in the EACH programme. Our professors at both UT and AAU were our source of encouragement and guidance when we faced challenges and self-doubts. Their expertise and their passion for teaching not only imparted knowledge but also inspired us to strive. Equally important were the nonteaching personnel of UT and AAU who ensured we had a smooth and enriching academic journey. They enabled us to focus on our studies while they supported us behind the scenes. Moreover, the network of EACH alumni, particularly those who have remained in Turku and other parts of Finland, provided us with the feeling of home and belonging. This is a testament to EACH’s strong sense of community that extends beyond academic support. We were able to foster lifelong friendships and professional connections that transcend borders.
Overall, the EACH programme prepared us for a successful career in both industry and academia. Faiza has now started as a QC Analyst at Northvolt, Sweden, while Angelo is set to become an MSCA doctoral student at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. We can confidently say that completing our master’s studies under the EACH programme provided us with the necessary boost to open doors of opportunities and possibilities for our future endeavours.
