Our courses
We offer two annual continuing education courses and two MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course).
Continuing education courses
We offer two continuing education courses – Metrology in Chemistry course and Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry course. Both courses run online in the UT Moodle environment. The lectures are recorded, so that you can participate in them at a time that suits you the most. However, you must keep up with the course deadlines and timing.
To attend the course(s), you need to register to the course(s) via the link(s) below. After registration, you will obtain access to the course’s Moodle environment where you can find study materials, lecture recordings, tests and forums.
Both continuing education courses are free of charge for all attendees from our partner universities and associated partners. For other participants, the cost of each course is 488 EUR.
Course “Metrology in Chemistry”
The course runs from the first half of February to mid-June.
The course gives knowledge on chemical measurements and analyses, assurance of reliability of measurement results, and reporting and interpreting of measurement results according to contemporary international requirements.
The course description and learning outcomes can be found at https://ois2.ut.ee/#/trainings/LTKT.TK.032/details (please select in the “Other events” field the most recent version of the course to obtain more information). Moodle link for the course: https://moodle.ut.ee/enrol/index.php?id=3100 (access is granted after registration).
For registering, please click here (choose the “Register” button at the bottom of the page).
Course “Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry”
The course runs from the first half of February to mid-June.
The course gives in-depth knowledge of different aspects of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. It is aimed at everyone with an interest in LC-MS or who are working with LC-MS instrumentation.
The description and learning outcomes of the course can be found at https://ois2.ut.ee/#/trainings/LTKT.TK.009/details (please select in the “Other events” field the most recent version of the course to obtain more information). Moodle link for the course: https://moodle.ut.ee/enrol/index.php?id=3814 (access is granted after registration).
For registering, please click here (choose the “Register” button at the bottom of the page).
MOOCs
We offer two MOOCs – Validation of Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) Methods MOOC and Estimation of Measurement Uncertainty in Chemical Analysis MOOC. Both MOOCs run in the UT Moodle environment. You can have a preview of the MOOCs in Moodle environment as a guest without registration. Under the section “Course introduction” you will find detailed information about the courses’ organisation, graded tests, formation of the grade and awarding of the certificate. Guest access also allows you to view the course contents in Moodle.
The offered MOOCs are free of charge to all participants.
MOOC „Validation of Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) Methods“
The MOOC runs from November/December to February.
This MOOC is a practice-oriented online course on validation of analytical methods, specifically using LC-MS as technique. The course introduces the main concepts and mathematical apparatus of validation, covers the most important method performance parameters and ways of estimating them.

MOOC “Estimation of Measurement Uncertainty in Chemical Analysis”
The MOOC runs from March to May.
This is an introductory course on estimation of measurement uncertainty, specifically related to chemical analysis (analytical chemistry). The MOOC gives the main concepts and mathematical apparatus of measurement uncertainty estimation and introduces two principal approaches to measurement uncertainty estimation – the ISO GUM modelling approach (the “bottom-up” or modelling approach) and the single-lab validation approach as implemented by Nordtest (the “top-down” or Nordtest approach). The course contains lectures, practical exercises and numerous tests for self-testing.
