What our students say?
“Excellent,” is the first word that comes to mind when reflecting on my EACH journey. From the moment I discovered the EACH program, I knew I had to join, and it has turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
The first year at the University of Tartu, Estonia is intense yet incredibly rewarding. The courses are designed to provide deep, multidisciplinary knowledge in analytical chemistry, while the lab work offers practical, hands-on experience with advanced analytical techniques. Initially, I found it very challenging and struggled during the first semester. However, with the support of the program, I worked harder, actively asked questions (something I was hesitant to do in the beginning), and sought clarifications on various topics, which enabled me to ace the second semester. EACH programme turned my life upside down. I came here expecting only to study analytical chemistry but ended up seeing so much more. From metrology to physics, satellites to NIR probes, European geopolitics to French language and culture. This course really has it all. I am very thankful and honored to be part of EACH, especially at the UCBL track. In the end, we graduate with two highly regarded diplomas and experiences to remember for many years to come.
Meeting many EACH mates, from the most diverse backgrounds, was so amazing that saying farewell was an arduous task. For all the students considering joining the programme, please do try because it is so much more than a master’s degree that it is hard to explain. Thanks to Prof. Ivo for his dedication to continue this excellent (!!!) programme.
Victor Xavier (EACH graduate 2023)
The EACH program was nothing short of a transformative journey for me, career-wise. Its rigorous curriculum that covers intensive coursework (e.g., metrology, chemometrics, etc.) reinforced by hands-on laboratory training and internship assignments in premier research institutions (i.e. BIOR, IFPEN), have sharpened my analytical chemistry skills. I greatly value the program’s focus on practical aspects of diverse analytical techniques, which are crucial for the next phase of my career. Moreover, the excellent mentorship and exemplary administrative support especially in Tartu, largely provided a challenging but enriching learning environment.
Beyond the classroom’s walls, side perks also came with ease – including travel & leisure possibilities, expanding social spheres, and ultimately immersing in diverse cultures (connecting with people from around the globe, forging meaningful friendships in the process). Undoubtedly, pursuing EACH was one of the best life decisions I’ve made, putting into the drain all the doubts and fears I initially felt. Looking back, I am immensely grateful for every lesson (along with the truckload of memories) this program has afforded me thus far.
Oliver Salangad (EACH graduate 2023)

Students of EACH intake 2020-2022
A tapestry of recollections has been bound into the fabric of my life in Chemicum. Many treasured memories stand out as vivid strands of nostalgia, including but not limited to the lovely Christmas tree building, the insightful lectures, the anxious but fulfilling presentations and free times with colleagues. The construction of Christmas trees was a collaborative design that was more than just decorating a tree. As I took a step back to survey our collective creation, which was adorned with ornaments made of dreams and memories, I experienced the sense of togetherness that the season can provide.
Master’s Seminars and presentations were eagerly anticipated occasions that brought us together outside classes and practical sessions. I can still clearly remember the excitement leading up to my first presentation in Room 1020. Read more …

I found the time completely enriching academically and personally. The lectures, seminars and hands-on experience in the lab were insightful, practical and challenging. The halls’ lectures were clean and comfortable. All the people inside the building are really helpful and would give you all the guidance you might need. This is also true in other buildings of the university.
Mauricio Andrés Huertas Beltrán (EACH 2022 intake)
Aside from the lecture halls and the teaching laboratories, the cafeteria in Chemicum was the place where we got to know each other better as we bonded over food. After classes and while waiting in between classes, my classmates and I would have lunch together in the cafeteria. Some of us brought home-cooked meals while some bought from the cafeteria. We got a taste of everything as we tried out each other’s meals. In the cafeteria, we shared not just food but also laughter, stories, and flavors of our personalities. Read more …

EACH, as its name clearly suggests, is an international program funded in terms of Excellence and high quality. Once immersed in it, you will always feel proud of it. Nevertheless, not everything can be rosy.
First of all, as with any other international program, it requires you to be strong enough to leave your comfort zone behind; that is why, more than once, you can find yourself asking: “Am I good enough?” (Kind of a spoiler I can tell you that the answer is “yes, you are” and during these years you will find people that will make of you even a better version). Two years of study under the EACH program boosted not only my professional knowledge but also strengthened my ability to critical judging. The study at UT set me a good foundation for the challenges that I faced at UCBL. The most valuable thing EACH program provided was the opportunity for doing an internship to better understand the properties of an adsorbent, gamma-alumina, in an industry in France which further gave me advantages over the other competitors in the job-seeking process. With this internship experience and the knowledge gained from EACH, I successfully secured my future position as an R&D engineer at a world-leading passive device before graduation. Now, I wish to use this opportunity to thank everyone I met who helped me through the journey.

Every moment of these two years, every breath I took in Tartu and Uppsala, every exam, every presentation and group work taught me something extraordinary. It taught me patience, and how to approach my craft. It taught me about collaboration, experimentation, risk, friendship, and empathy. There were the days where I couldn’t stop laughing, and nights when I wished I could have been sleeping in bed, instead of studying and writing the reports, but somehow, we made it through and we had fun even then. And if I got the chance to go back in time I would, with no doubts, choose the EACH programme again.
Snežana Đorđević (EACH graduate 2018)
I was one of the students in the 2015/16 intake. After the program I have immediately found a project to work on. I was in Athens from October 2017, studying Coatings deposition through electrochemical means and their properties. After one year, I have decided to change, hence in October 2018, I have started PhD studies in Lyon, in the company IFP energies novelles. AT IFPEN I am working on Comprehensive Two Dimensional Gas Chromatography with VUV and FID detection for the analysis of petroleum products. The project is very exhilarating and I feel like the participation in EACH has very much prepared me to think as a researcher. I found the EACH diploma to be very valued by the potential employers, with the accent on international experience that everyone appreciates very much. I did not have any trouble to find a project after EACH, if anything it was more difficult to make a choice between several opportunities. I am infinitely grateful for the opportunity to participate in EACH, and as I always say for sure it has changed my life. I hope you will be able to continue the project in many years to come.

Analytical chemistry is the central piece today in chemistry. This is demonstrated in the article Education and careers of European analytical chemists (DOI 10.1007/s00216-014-8191-z) where analytical chemistry is predominant in 17 % of chemists’ jobs (in Europe). Therefore, the EACH program is the suitable place to be to get what is required for diverse job markets. Here we are not only talking about industry, even consultancy organisations are relying on analytical chemists. Health, environmental, etc decisions are made today following the words of the latter. That’s just a glance to see the power of the tool (analytical chemistry) that we have and the means (EACH, not Gryffindor) to reach it.
Olivier Nonga (EACH graduate 2017)
